I Can Fly!

Well, in my dream I could! It was amazing - sort of like the movements of jellyfish - and so convincing! It turns out the "trick" is to believe you can - and then it works. WOW! I wonder what it means!

I am still overwhelmed with how real it seemed.

Progress!

Last night I finished the four blocks for the second month - and trimmed them a little. I am pretty happy with them. It is hard to have to wait to see how the rest will go together though. The next block is the mirror image of the last ones so there won't be any big surprises. I was thinking of introducing a new fabric for the outer blocks but now I think I will stick with the ones I have.

Yesterday I read about a clothes dryer for hanging clothes outside and ordered it from Amazon about 8 am. With 2 day shipping it arrived this afternoon! Woohoo! To celebrate I sewed a clothes pin bag from a souvenir tea towel from Oberammergau '90 - about time to use it! I really like it - hope it functions well too! What do you think?

Next Version

I have started on the blocks for the first full set of quilt blocks. This is the second version using these fabrics. I like the dark background better than the first try. I intend to get the next three of the second kind done by the start of June when I get the software for the third one. I have an idea for a different version with fabrics changing hue as they move out from the center. It would be interesting to try!

Quilt Blocks that are embroidered

This is my latest obsession - a block of the month program - making quilt blocks with my embroidery machine. I keep wanting to try other versions but I know I need to finish the first projects. My first try was with purples to go with my new purple suitcase. I will use the center blocks as fancy corners on a tote. I think I will put the point away from the corner. We will see!

I found an outdoor fabric that will be great for the bag itself - even water proof!

Starting Out

Thursday, April 29, 2010

It is a beautiful day - I love this time of year - and it inspires me to be more intentional about creating. I hope a blog will help me to be more regular in my efforts.

I chose the title because my sister who taught art at the college level for many years said this was the rule in her studio classes - it was OK to have fun but students had to be "on purpose". I loved the message and have tried to apply it to my life. So, thanks, Suzanne!
This is the front of a New Year's Day Mystery Quilt that I then made in a design I preferred. It seemed to work better with my fabrics. Someday I will actually quilt it (by machine).

On the right is the back of the same quilt - it is throw size - the largest I enjoy working on.

Next time I will show you what has distracted me from the quilt project!
